Abdominal crunches can help trim your body as well as lose weight in the process. However, people won’t recommend doing crunches to get over with weight gain in pregnancy. Doing crunches while pregnant may cause trauma to your uterus that can bring harm to your baby.
But most experts say that doing sit ups are safe once you have reached the 20th week of your pregnancy. There are a few precautions though. It is advised that you avoid lying for more than 5 to 10 minutes. Experts say that lying for than 5 to 10 minutes can cause the uterus putting weight pressure on your major arteries and other vital organs that can cause low blood pressure as well as harm to other body parts affected by the pressure. Don’t tire yourself too much since you don’t want harming your baby inside your womb. If you decide to do this regularly, be sure to consult your doctor to be able to monitor your progress as well as other health issues in your body.

I find this interesting. My midwife told me that it’s ok to do sit-ups until about the 20th week of pregnancy, and then after that, the muscles of the abdomen start to separate (to allow the baby/belly to grow), and if you do sit-ups then, you’ll be exercising them in that separated position, and they’ll stay like that even after the baby is born. She told me not to worry about my belly, and I could start doing abs exercises soon after my baby was born.

The best way to maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy is to watch your calories and make sure you are eating nutrient dense food…not pigging out on ice cream like I did! Best Wishes!!
